Bandon - A very special place

I am writing to pass on an email from Pinky, Ernesto's great caddy at Bandon. She is now a real estate agent and is helping some of us with alittle project on which we are working.  As you will see from the email string,  I briefly mentioned the rainstorm that we played in during thefirst day. Pinky responded with the following resolute statement: "It has been much colder than that on the golf course, but NEVER so windyand rainy." Imagine that. We played golf on what might have been the most inhospitable day in one of the most inhospitable regions of the countryduring one of the most inhospitable months. And we would not bedeterred. We putted everything out. There are a ton of memories from that day including the floating railroad ties between the twelfth and thirteenth holes, getting hammered at the snack shack at the same location, our caddy muttering "fuck" when he saw Ward, Roberts and Moreno heading for the eighth tee instead of the clubhouse, the way-beyond-gale force-wind on the fourth and ninth holes. However, my favorite memory is when I told Ernesto that I had shot 92 or 94 (I can't remember which) and he looked at me in disbelief because he thought there was no way I could have scored that LOW! How did I do it? While some of you were making 10s and 14s on the 9th hole, I scored a remarkable 8. I still remember every shot. Driver, 5 iron, 5 iron, 5 iron, 7 iron, wedge, two putts. I can't think of a bunch of guys I would have rather endured that day with. What a memory. I loved the opening line of Adam's email, sent after we all returned home, "did I just wake up from a dream?"

Let's do it again soon.

Best to all, Bailes

Hi! I remember that rain storm. Ernesto was so stubborn about not starting out in raingear! His shorts (yes, shorts!) were soaked before we got halfway down the first fairway. It has been much colder than that on the golf course, but never so windy and rainy. I think that some of the better drives were only going 90 yards or so! Have you been back? There is a 4th course being built now called Old MacDonald - named after the famous course architect.
