Armando's Orange Tree at 904 Stockton Ave.
|
When we first moved into 904 Stockton Ave. I found a spot in the orchard area that had an old stump. I thought that area would be perfect to plant a tree. It was becoming painfully obvious that Dad was not going to make our ground breaking on the 26th of June. Anyway, I thought what a better way to dedicate the new office than with a fruit tree. I bought a beautiful little orange tree and on that day father Pabst dedicated 904 Stockton street.
Two days later, dad died. Something about an orange that dad loved. Until the day , just a few weeks ago, that I picked the first two oranges from the tree, did I realize why dad loved oranges so much. You see, dad believed in sharing, for God's sake he was a teacher. You can share oranges. That day I peeled both oranges put them in plastic cups and shared as dad would have, a few slivers, to each of the people working here at 904 Stockton. Thanks dad for the oranges. More so dad, thanks for teaching me how to share.

Ernie,
What a great story. Twenty years ago this month I planted an orange tree when my first wife's grandmother died. Tita was what everyone called her. When I planted it my sister-in-law said it was too close to the fence and when it grew it would hang over. It does. Tita would approve. Dan Smith
